    Romy is 15, bitter and pregnant. A scholarship student at a private grammar school, Romy is an outsider, economically and intellectually. She steels herself for a termination which her lover (and next door neighbour) Marcus arranges, but there’s a complication during the procedure and Romy remains pregnant. The couple run away to Marcus’s sister in France.

He employs a private detective to investigate the inhabitants of a French village which is home to his own six year old son whom he has never met. Armed only with the urn containing his father’s ashes, Kerr locks the ghosts into his London apartment and gets on a plane.
    Lewisse Thread is a reluctant estate agent, in La Roque. She’s the exhausted mother of autistic Raphael and the partner of Gabrielle Rousseau, the local doctor. Lewisse is struggling, with her child and with her partner, who has taken on the family debts. The very last thing Lew needs on her doorstep are her younger brother’s pregnant girlfriend and the up-till-now anonymous, megalomaniac, father of her child.
    The stage is set for a showdown, a reconciliation and the buying of a château. Jenny Morton Potts’s novel sparkles with wicked humour, originality and pathos.  She is a truly exciting new talent.
